Happy Birthday Craig!!!

Yesterday was my DH's birthday and the kids were excited. My daughter was very upset that we all had to go to work and school and we couldn't just stay home and party all day. We went out to eat after work/school and then came home for cake, ice cream, and presents. I made him this baseball cake. It's my first venture into cake decorating and I definitely learned some lessons!!! But it turned out okay and he was happy with it. And it tasted pretty damn good, homeade buttercream frosting and all!! He does it all around this house, from taking the kids to school in the morning to making dinner at night. I don't know what we would do without him! Happy birthday, sweeeeetie pie!!!

My Wish for You Album

I've always wanted to do an altered board book. The February kit from Itty Bitty Scrap Shack came with a blank board book, but it wasn't until I received the April kit that I knew what I wanted to do with it. I made a wish album for my sister, who is getting married next week (Yikes, is it next week??? Damn...). It's filled with wishes for her and her new hubby and her new life. I had SO much fun making this. I'll definitely be making more in the future!!

The main parts are from the April Window Box kit from Itty Bitty Scrap Shack. Fancy Pants paper, Heidi Swapp bling, Bazzill In-Stitchz paper, custom transparency. Thanks for looking!!!

My sis is getting married!!!

I am very excited that my sister finally found a nice young man to settle down with. Okay, who am I kidding??? But she did find somebody who we all just adore, who seems to have all his mental capacities in tact, and who plays a mean game of scrabble. She is getting married in 2 weeks and I flew up to her house last weekend for the bridal shower. My mom was there, my SIL was there, Sarah's friends were there and my BFF since 6th grade was there! It was a great party. We had sandwiches, salads, raspberry lemondrop martinis and a big 2-tiered stand filled with See's candy. The See's candy was totally unnecessary, but yummy nevertheless!!

Here is my BFF!! I like using the term BFF because I feel like Paris Hilton. We met in 6th grade, had every class together and then never had a class together again all through school! Love you, Bethie Boo!!!

Okay, I guess this is really supposed to be all about my sister! Here she is getting the highly coveted deluxe Scrabble game with turntable. Oh yeah....

The bridesmaids...although my sister likes to point out frequently that since i'm married I'm actually the MATRON of honor.

A group shot!!

My sis and I...this was about 4 martinis into the party so please don't judge...AND the fact she's my younger sister and taller than I??? So not fair.

Here we are flashing Westside gang signs, which probably wasn't too smart considering the neighborhood she lives in.

We went out later but those photos probably wouldn't get past the censors. They should probably be burned or deleted from my computer for fear of coming back to haunt me when I try to run for public office. I can't wait for the wedding!!!

Field Trip Photos

My husband, who teaches marine biolgoy at the community college, recently took his marine biology class up to Central California for a tidepool project. The cool thing about the place he goes (we've been going to the same tidepools for years) is that it's north of Point Conception. Point Conception is considered a big floral and faunal break on the California Coast. Which means, you see all sorts of different organisms in those tidepools from the tidepools down south. He caught these photos of a sea otter right past the surf zone while he was there. He was up on the bluff and got these pics with our zoom lens. They are not completely clear photos, but you can totally see the crab that the sea otter is eating! Tooooo cool!!!

He also went to see the elephant seals. San Simeon is a major hauling out point for the females to have their babies and for the males to establish harems and territories for the breeding season. And it's totally protected, so you can't get within a certain distance of the seals. The males and females have already had their babies and gone and the seals that are left are the juvenille pups. They are so cute, learning to swim and getting ready for their journey out to sea. Some are even molting right now. Hurrah for the zoom lens!!

And in the midst of all this glorious sea life...he got photos of this...

Hearst Castle is right where he was and it was rumored that William Hurst had all sorts of exotic animals on his property. When he died, it was rumored again that somebody let all the animals go into the wild. We've been going up that coast for years and never seen the zebras. But this time, he caught them on film!!! What a trip to be traveling by the beach and seeing zebras too!!

Thanks for checking out the photos!!

The weekend...

A weekend where we had no plans turned into a weekend of fun crafty planty garden stuff. And gee...it only took me until Wednesday to post about it! Ha! Kayla and I had fun at Michael's on Sunday morning while the boys were at Home Depot. Talk about division of labor. We came home with some pots to paint and the kids went to town.

Then out to the garden. The kids planted flowers in the frontyard with dad and got the jiffy pots soaking in the backyard for the seeds. They planted cucumbers and carrots on this day. We'll wait for those to sprout and then do some squash and radishes. Does anybody even eat radishes anymore? We have to have cucumbers to make Baki's special cucumbers, a summer favorite in this house.

I hope the nice weather holds out until the weekend!! Yeah for spring!
