Guess what I did?

I signed up for this:

Yes, the Rock and Roll Marathon in San Diego. It's the first weekend in June of this year. In my effort this year to Move More and Eat Less I finally decided to bite the bullet and sign up for a full marathon. This will be my 3rd marathon. I ran the LA Marathon back in 2005. My daughter was just over a year old and I really really wanted to run something. So I picked a marathon. Easy, right? I pretty much trained by myself, not really counting my mileage. I just ran by time. And I finished the race but I wasn't fully trained or prepared. The best part...Now I had a time to beat!

So I signed up with Team In Training and trained for the San Diego Rock and Roll in 2006. I had a coach and teammates and training runs and training plans and I also raised over $5500 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma foundation. My dad at the time was battling cancer and this was my way of 'helping'. I had a great 2nd marathon, knocked 35 minutes off my previous time. Then I lost my dad to cancer and kinda wandered around in this always-injured-but-still-trying-to-force-myself-to-run kind of funk for the next 2 years. I pulled my achilles tendon and took a long time to get back from that.

But I made it back. I ran the Surf City Half Marathon in 2009 and the LA Rock and Roll Half this past fall (October 2010). I broke 2 hours in the half and was very happy. And I caught the racing and running bug again. So this is the year. The year for another marathon...and i'm excited!

So now, in addition to baking and crafting and scrapbooking, you all get to hear about running and shoes and icing and stretching and training and blisters and chafing in weird spots. Well, maybe not the chafing...but I will definitely be tracking my progress. I am in the process of putting together a training plan and hope to start seriously training in about 3 weeks. I have a big goal for this race, but i'm going to see how my training goes before getting all crazy about it. I hope you will all stick around for the ride!

My running friend here at work is trying to convince me to run the Long Beach marathon. Hmmm... I'm still thinking about it. 26 miles is an awfully long way...
