Watermelon Rice Krispy Treats

Summertime means certain things around here...pool time, going to the beach, fruity cocktails, fresh strawberries, tomatoes from the garden, and watermelon. We love watermelon around here, it's a fruit we all can agree on. A few weeks ago I ran across a different kind of watermelon and just had to try it.

Watermelon rice krispy treats...aren't these the cutest ever??!! I found this idea at the Glorious Treats food blog and knew I had to make it. You make two separate batches and tint one red/pink and one green (please see her blog post for exact measurements). Using a round cake pan, make one ring of green for the rind.

Then press the batch of pink rice krispies into the middle of the ring to create the watermelon look.

I used mini chocolate chips for the seeds (only because I couldn't find the chocolate covered sunflower seeds she suggests using...where do you find those things???).

I lined them all up on a cookie sheet to take with me to a summer party. They were a big hit!

Cas-ual Friday #60

Happy Monday!! How was your weekend? We had a beautiful weekend with lots of swimming to stay cool from the heat. Although I'm sure our heat was nothing like the heat felt in other parts of the country. I hope you all stayed cool.

I have a card for the Cas-ual Friday Challenge this week...Using Text!

I created some score lines using my Scor-Buddy, cut an ice cream cone using my Cricut, and added some text in the form of one of my favorite sentiments!

And there you have it!! I am back to work today after being on vacation for a week. Wish me luck that I can turn on my work brain. I'm sure it won't be easy!

Patriotic Cake Push Pops

I know I am a few days late sharing 4th of July treats. But I just have to share these cake push pops that I made for a party. Do you remember the ice cream push pops? I'm sure they still sell them but I remember them from my childhood. And now you can make cake push pops that are just as cute and delicious.

I bought the push pop molds from Etsy and have been dying for a chance to use them. I baked 2 white cakes in a cookie sheet and tinted one red and one blue. Unfortunately my blue cake was more green. And I think it was because the blue food coloring mixed with the yellow of the eggs in the cake. Regardless, these were fun to make.

I layered cake, frosting, cake, frosting, sprinkles in each mold. The molds came with a snap cap which was perfect to keep everything in place.

To eat these, you take off the cake and push up the cake and frosting!! My kids thought these were so cool. I definitely won some 'cool mom' points with this treat.

There are so many fun color/flavor combinations you could try. I'm thinking pound cake, strawberries, and whipped cream for a fun strawberry shortcake. Or chocolate cake, marshmallow fluff, and graham cracker crumbs for a s'mores pop. Or funfetti cake plus pink frosting for my daughter's next sleepover. These molds are re-useable and I plan on using them again soon!

Retro Sketches #19

Hi Everyone! If you celebrated the 4th of July, I hope you had a great time. I have a challenge card to share today. My daughter, who is 8, and I did this one together. Meaning, she hid her card from me until she was finished and refused any help at all. Ha ha! We crafted side by side but I wasn't allowed to see what she was working on.

Here is my card (I have been dying to make a card like this since I received this Jillibean Soup paper!!):

I cut out the limes by hand from patterned paper and used the die cut punch out for the sentiment.

And here is my daughter's card!!

It was so cute to see her digging through my cardstock and stamps and twine, looking for just the perfect things to use. I definitely see us taking on more challenges together!

Year In Review: Red White and Blue!

Happy 4th of July everyone! I hope you have a great day today celebrating with family and friends and fireworks. I made this banner for our 4th of July dessert table using tons of great products from My Time Made Easy.

I used the Birthday Banner Triangle cut file that is new this month to create the base of the banner. I then created two fan fold flowers to anchor the banner. I used the star from the new Magical Birthday Wishes cut file set for embellishing.

I always seem to go back to the Fine Finish cut file set!! I love all the frame shapes and used one for the background of the inside banner pieces. And the new Magical Birthday Numbers for the big 4. I cut it once on my Cricut then used my Cricut features to cut a shadow. I like the layering!

My Time Made Easy-Lil' Cupcake

I have one more new template to share today and I think it's my favorite one of the bunch. It's called Lil' Cupcake and it's super cute!

This is a cupcake shaped gift bag/box and it comes together so easily. There are decorative files to create the cupcake liner and frosting top so there are endless possibilities. Here is a side view so you can see inside.

I used the dotted stripes paper collection for the frosting top. I also used the new Magical Birthday Wishes stamp set to create the sentiment flags. There is a great frame in the new Magical Birthday Wishes cut file set that I used as a focal point for my matching card.

My Time Made Easy: Birthday Bash!

Hi Everyone! It's release day at My Time Made Easy and it's time for a big birthday bash! All the templates this month are perfect for birthdays, as well as so many other events. Today the template i'm sharing is called Cuppy Cake.

This is a fun cupcake template that opens from the top. The bottom is a scalloped cupcake liner and the top is a big fun mound of frosting! I used the new paper Blonde Birthday to embellish my cupcake.
I also added a double layered star from the Magical Birthday Wishes cut files and a sentiment from the Magical Birthday Wishes stamp set. I used the same products to create a matching card.
